The Regency Dress.

After many fittings, the dress was worn to the Mr. Fezziwig's ball. This style was "Old Fashion" for a Victorian Dance, but way easier to actually dance in on a very crowded floor.

Regency Dress

An attempt at stash reduction will take place in 2011.

The first is a Regency dress for Mr. Fezziwig’s Ball at the Riverside Dicken’s Festival.

The starting point is McCall’s pattern 3954 version A. The right side of the dress form.

Alterations were made for narrow shoulders, round back, and a full bust. The left side of the dress form.

Additional changes are marked on the fabric with a red marker for round two of the alterations. I average three mock-ups. Two for the bodice and one more for the sleeves.

The lovely pumpkin pattern material was specifically bought for mock-ups for a dollar a yard.

More to come.

This is Not Lutterloh!!

Way past vintage into history.

I am going to the Marching Through History Event at Prado Park on October 2 and 3. I am part of a dance group and I needed a new dress. Pushing the deadline, as I work 7 to 7 during the week, I finished the out fit a few minutes ago.

The blue dress is in the Robe Anglaise style. Hook and eye front closing bodice with an attached open skirt, 4 yards of material pleated into the bottom edge of ¾ of the bodice. The front of the skirt is open to show the petticoat (underskirt). The sleeves fold back to form self-cuffs.

The challenge: This dress is designed for people with small breasts and waists. I am a size 18 apple shaped woman with very narrow shoulders and ample breasts and waist. It took 6 paper patterns and 3 fabric muslins to get a good fit.

The petticoat is a simple gathered shirt with hook and eye closure. 3 yards of material hand pleated into a waistband. The pattern is called Gramercy Park. Roses on a light yellow background.
The chemise is a simple T with a drawstring neckline and long sleeves to protect me from the sun.

Prologue

This will be random postings of bits and pieces.

I do not have a 9 to 5 office job. My work takes a majority of my time and energy at this point of my life journey. I spend many hours a week in my boots and uniform in many different places.

When possible, I don my polka dot pumps to let my other side come out to play.

I enjoy reading the many delightful vintage sewing blogs. I am learning a great deal that I am hoping to put into practice soon. One of the things I learned is with my measurements I would be doing a great deal of resizing on the printed patterns.

My decision was to start drawing from scratch. I have collected several Lutterloh vintage pattern sets to start my sewing adventures with. Now I have to locate drafting tools and supplies. I hope to have something to show soon.
